ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

In college, my primary focus was devoted to earning a Bachelor of Architecture degree. In addition to that focus, there was the opportunity to take many elective art courses. Upon graduation I taught architectural design courses at the college level and following that, was part of a successful practice of architecture.

As a result of my education and practice, I look at the art creative process through the eyes of both an Architect and an Artist.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My training as an architect can be seen in my work. Paying great attention to subject matter, composition and color, my medium preference is acrylic paints and pastels on large canvasses. While I paint portraits, animals and wildlife, floral and seascapes, my passion is painting landscapes. Many of these landscape paintings have architectural elements as part of the subject matter such as farm and barn compositions as well as images from travel and hiking experiences all over the world. Creating an atmosphere of time, space and color that cannot be captured in a photograph, or through personal observation, is an important characteristic of my work.

My historical reading in art is particularly drawn to expressionist artist Claude Monet as well as the Hoosier Artists who flourished in the early 1900’s. Much of their work tends to be landscapes that explore a mood of the moment in a way that compels your attention for long periods of time.
